Review
Situated on the beautiful southeastern tip of England in the heart of White Cliffs Country, Wallett's Court Country House Hotel boasts a long and colourful history dating back to Norman times. First recorded as the "Manor of Westcliffe", the many key historical figures associated with the property since the Battle of Hastings in 1066 include William the Conqueror and William Pitt the Younger. Following a turbulent start to the 20th century when the greater part of the manor fell into ruin, Wallett's Court was rediscovered by the Oakley family in 1976, lovingly restored to its former glories and today, stands as a top class country house hotel.
The bedrooms at Wallett's Court are scattered around the grounds in beautifully converted farm buildings, barns and stables, while each room is varied in style and offers en-suite bathrooms. Some rooms boast antique four-poster beds and vaulted beam ceilings, while others offer appealing sea vistas over the North Downs. After a guaranteed sound nights sleep, guests may enjoy breakfast in the conservatory or on the terrace overlooking the landscaped gardens. The award-winning restaurant at Wallett's Court offers a sumptuous culinary experience and includes specialties like woodpigeon, venison, wild boar and locally caught sea bass and lobster.
Unusually enough for a country hotel of this genre, the leisure facilities at Wallett's Court are very impressive. Comprising a Romanesque pool, sauna and mineral steam room, guests may also while away the hours relaxing in the hydrotherapy spa, working out in the gymnasium or enjoying a game of tennis on the floodlit tennis court. Known as the "Garden of England", Kent has much to offer the visitor. The cathedral city of Canterbury is a joy to behold, while Dover Castle, Deal Castle, Dover Museum and the picturesque seaside town of Deal are all well-worth a visit.
