Review
Comprising four original 19th century Victorian townhouses, the Franklin Hotel, which opened in 1992, combines the tranquility and elegance of a country house hotel with one of the best locations in London. A place more to "enjoy" rather than just "stay", the Franklin Hotel is located in the heart of the residential district of Knightsbridge and overlooks a lovely tree-lined garden square, only minutes from Harrods, excellent restaurants and the array of shops on Sloane Street.
Designed by the Duchess of Roxburghe and individually decorated by skilled craftsmen, each of the 47 guestrooms is adorned by sumptuous fabrics, antique furniture and authentic oil paintings. The particularly notable thing about the rooms is that they tend to create the impression that guests are staying in the owner's home rather than at a hotel. The Franklin offers two interconnecting dining rooms, offering delectable cuisine, while the bar is designed to be a quiet and comfortable place to enjoy a drink. With not a barman in sight, the well-stocked bar is based on the honour system, where you pour yourself a drink, sign a chit and post it.
Being a city centre establishment, the Franklin Hotel may not offer the impressive range of leisure facilities that one can find elsewhere but a range of facilities and activities, from archery and clay pigeon shooting to swimming and bowling can be arranged nearby. An absolute paradise for the shopper and ideally located from a sightseeing perspective, some of the must-see local attractions include the Victoria & Albert Museum, Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London.
