Review
As one would expect from such an icon of English heritage, the recorded history of the Stoke Park Club reaches back over 900 years to 1066. The mansion was designed by James Wyatt, architect to King George III, between 1790 and 1834 and was used as a private residence until 1908, when "Pa" Lane Jackson purchased the estate with the view of transforming it into Britain's finest sporting club. Though falling into some disrepair after the Second World War, today, the estate mirrors its former glories and more, following an extensive refurbishment programme in the 1990's.
More than just a hotel and more than just a hotel and golf course, the 350-acre estate combines the best of today's sporting, leisure and hotel facilities. The hotel offers 21 immorally luxurious rooms, boasting the finest in interior design, facilities and antiques. Many bedrooms open onto terraces where guests may enjoy breakfast or evening drinks overlooking the 350 acres of parkland and gardens. And as regards cuisine, guests may choose between the magnificent Orangery Restaurant and the art deco inspired Stoke's Brasserie, which itself offers a choice of menus.
You really have to visit this place to truly appreciate its spectacular range of leisure facilities. Comprising swimming pool, steam rooms, hydrotherapy treatment rooms, relaxation rooms, gymnasium, sauna, indoor and outdoor tennis courts and squash, there really is something to suit every taste. Not that you would want to ever leave the Stoke Park Club but if you do, there is plenty to see and do. All within easy driving distance, you should be sure to visit the likes of Windsor Castle, Eton College and Wimbledon and also go to see the Changing of the Guard.
