Review
Originally built in as a private residence in 1787, the Montcalm began life as a hotel in 1973 and took its name from the Marquis de Montcalm, the French general who commanded the siege of Quebec in the 18th century. Often described as one of the best-kept secrets in London, this beautiful Georgian townhouse stands on a secluded crescent near Marble Arch, at the northeastern edge of Hyde Park. The Montcalm Hotel became part of the Nikko Hotels chain in 1985 and has since enjoyed a deluxe status by providing an extraordinarily high standard of service and accommodation.
Cosy and sophisticated, with an open fire, wood panelling and plush furnishings, the Cocktail Bar is the perfect place to enjoy afternoon tea or indulge in a quiet drink. The Crescent Restaurant is spacious and stylish, flanked by tall windows on each side and features an impressive English country garden mural. Excellent service and a relaxed atmosphere provide the ideal complement to the invariably superb cuisine. All of the 120 air-conditioned guestrooms and suites have en-suite bathrooms and offer every modern facility, including modem access, trouser press and mini bar.
Being a city centre establishment, the Montcalm Hotel may not offer the impressive range of leisure facilities that one can find elsewhere but a range of facilities and activities, from archery and clay pigeon shooting to swimming and bowling can be arranged nearby. An absolute paradise for the shopper, with the major shopping areas of Mayfair and Oxford Street both within a few minutes walk, the Montcalm is also ideal from a sightseeing perspective. Just some of the local attractions include the Victoria & Albert Museum, Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London.
