Opened in 1998, the attention to detail is apparent throughout the resort and everything is of the utmost luxury. Since its creation in 1989, the development concept at La Cala Resort has been one of low density construction in order to maximize residents' privacy and to protect the resort's delightful rustic environment. Due to its particularly privileged situation, La Cala Resort, a 35 minute drive from Malaga International Airport, the Mediterranean is less than ten minutes drive away and Marbella is only 15 minutes further along the coast, the Resort is able to offer its clients a wide variety of sporting activities, indoor and outdoor. The two golf courses at La Cala are the main attraction of the resort. Both, La Cala North (Par 73) and La Cala South (Par 72) have been designed by North American architect Cabell B. Robinson. Ideal complements are the clubhouse with its bar and Pro Shop, and the prestigious David Leadbetter Golf Academy, with a large driving range. In the near future, 18 holes (also designed by Robinson) will be added to the facilities. Other on site sports facilities include tennis, squash, gymnasium, swimming pools and a football pitch. In addition, there are nature trails for trekking and horse riding.
