Review
Dominating the great city of Barcelona from the top of Mount Tibidabo, the luxurious Gran Hotel La Florida was originally designed in 1925 by Dr, Andreu who wanted to build Barcelona's best hotel in Barcelona's best location. Having served as a military hospital during the Spanish Civil War and as a summer residence for Barcelona's high society during the 1950s, Gran Hotel La Florida reopened seventy-five years later following a four year renovation program. This majestic hotel located 300 meters over the city is surrounded by majestic gardens and terraces offering spectacular views of Barcelona and the Mediterranean Sea to one side and the snow capped peaks of the Pyrenees and sacred Montserrat to the other.
One of the most unique aspects of the Gran Hotel La Florida is its perfect synthesis of the traditional and the new. Within the hotel wrought iron and antique carpentry blend easily with stainless steel and glass and it is this unique and splendid d?cor that has attracted such celebrities as Ernest Hemingway, James Stewart, George Sanders, Princess Fabiola and the Prince of Belgium to this prestigious hotel in the past. The old charm of the hotel and its fabulous history are brought to life through beautifully presented antique photographs of the hotel and its surroundings, dating back to the 1920s and 1930s. These photos and antique engravings adorn the guest rooms and corridors of the renovated areas of the hotel. Many of the 74 guest rooms offer breathtaking panoramic views over the city of Barcelona and the Mediterranean Sea. Some rooms have a private Jacuzzi and terrace gardens and all feature the luxurious standards of a five-star hotel. They are comfortably and elegantly equipped with generous marble bathrooms with in-floor heating, heated towel racks, air-conditioning and heating, satellite large screen plasma TV, mini-bar, IDSL telephone and internet access, and a private safe.
For a fine gastronomic experience in an unforgettable setting, the hotel's L'Orangerie restaurant serves innovative Mediterranean dishes under the instruction of head chef Daniel Baus? and the wine cellar boasts a selection of 350 international wines. ON Sunday afternoon the restaurant serves a wonderful buffet brunch of Spanish, Catalan and Mediterranean cuisine. The hotel's lobby lounge has a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere where one can enjoy a coffee break or a glass of wine and the Miramar Bar, located on the outdoor terrace is very popular with guests and locals alike. For the best live jazz music in the city and Europe's best selections of fine cigars, visit the hotel's very own nightclub Club Luna
