Details
Founded in 1964, Sotogrande regularly features among Europe's top ten golf courses and is the host of the annual Sherry Cup-European Amateur golf masters. Known as Sotogrande "Old" to differentiate it from its younger neighbour, Valderrama, the Robert Trent Jones course is a private club but green fee paying visitors are welcome although you are advised to book in advance.
Sotogrande boasts well established vegetation with pine, cork oaks, Eucalyptus and palm trees. Anyone who has played the course will be able to confirm it is a very special design, its beauty enhanced by the varied vegetation. Water hazards play an important role here especially on the 7th, the par five 12th, the 13th, 14th, 16th, and the par three 17th. There are fine houses around the course though none can be accused of encroaching. This is truly an "old school" Club where golf comes first. It is a rare pleasure to stand on the 12th tee with the broad un-spoilt expanse of fairways before you, the lakes, the distant green, the thirteenth hole and par five 14th coming back up. The recently modernised Clubhouse overlooks the first tee and eighteenth green and the course is complemented with its magnificent yacht harbour together with its polo installations.
The Club offers facilities which may be enjoyed by both members and non-members. There are carts, clubs and buggies available to hire, and you can enjoy the club's splendid bar and restaurant. In addition the Club has a pitching green and a putting green as well as both private and group classes. The clubhouse offers the use of a swimming pool, tennis courts a gym and a Jacuzzi.
