Details
One of the oldest golf courses in Spain, Sant Cugat is a long established and exclusive club that was founded in 1914 and was built by English workers who were working the Barcelona-St. Cugat railway at that time. The course itself is situated on a mountainous uneven terrain however it is very picturesque. A beautiful variety of trees and vegetation decorate the well manicured greens, fairways and bunkers and the recent replacement of the course's watering systems count for its good condition.
Considered a relatively difficult course, Sant Cugat is tight and quite long, ideal for a summer round. There are a considerable number of water hazards, green bunkers and trees, making it a bit difficult to reach the green. Each of the 21 holes has its own name, falling in line with a British tradition and the nature of the wide fairways challenge the player's skill. The club has hosted the Sanyo open on various occasions and Seve Ballasteros played his first pro tournament here. In September of this year, Sant Cugat was the scene for the Catalonia ladies World Match Play which was won Sofie Gustafson.
The golf club has two driving ranges, one covered and it is very well equipped with cart and electric trolley rental as well as a pitching and putting green. In addition to the 21 holes, Club de Golf Sant Cugat has a swimming pool, a bar and a restaurant.
