Royal Curragh Golf Club

Overview

Like many Clubs, The Royal Curragh Golf Club were trying to manage their business with declining membership and reducing income. Maintenance standards had fallen below the expectations of their members for a number of reasons including an aging  fleet of maintenance equipment and reducing budgets.

The Committee set out to restructure the Golf Club in order to address some of the operational issues which existed. Carr Golf was engaged to complete an independent review of the maintenance operations and propose solutions for the ongoing maintenance and presentation of the golf course. Following completion of the review, Carr Golf presented its proposed solution to the entire Executive Committee of the Golf Club. The presentation outlined how we would address key issues pertaining to the maintenance of the golf course and help achieve the Club’s overall objectives.

Solution

Carr Golf were retained to provide a maintenance solution for the golf course in February 2015 and feedback from our client about the experience to date has been extremely positive. Carr Golf has provided a reconditioned fleet of new mowers and completely reorganised the agronomic maintenance programme to deliver comprehensive improvements to the maintenance and presentation of the golf course. Annual maintenance costs have remained largely in line with previous years but standards have improved dramatically and the Club has benefited from a complete overhaul of the turf maintenance fleet. Member satisfaction has improved significantly and the Club has reported growth in green fee and membership income, driven largely by the improvements made to the golf course.

Conclusion

The first 6 months of Carr Golf’s engagement with Royal Curragh Golf Club has been extremely positive for all concerned. The Committee are delighted with the progress made on the golf course and the fact that their decision to appoint Carr Golf to oversee the maintenance of the golf course has proved to be the right choice. The team on the ground have developed their skill sets, are working with more appropriate equipment and are seeing better results; essential for ongoing motivation. At Carr Golf we are delighted with the progress we have made but are conscious that we need to keep improving the course presentation standards in order to continue meeting expectations.

As with any Club, the course is the most important part of the asset and offering to members and guests. The hope is that positive feedback and experience over the last six months will contribute to increasing income from more visitors and members. The fixed price contract which the Club has with Carr Golf means that Club management and Committees can move forward with certainty over costs and standards.
