![]() ![]() Name: Killeen Castle Address: Dunsany, Co. Meath, Ireland Founded: 2009 Designer: Jack Nicklaus Championship Length: 7,677 yards PAR: 72 Type: Parkland Details The Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at Killeen Castle has opened its fairways as of April 2009. Situated just 2kms from Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath Nicklaus has created 18 spectacular holes of golf, each with its own unique features. As you would expect with a Nicklaus designed course the 7,600 yard course provides the sternest of Championship challenges while remaining accessible to the average golfer. All of the greens and tees have been seeded and drained to USGA performance specification and the greens feature a unique blend of grasses, inspired by Augusta - the same blend used in Jack's own course in Muirfield, Ohio in the US. In a testimony to the quality of the course Killeen Castle has already hosted The 2011 Solheim Cup between Europe and the United States and the ladies Irish Open in 2010, 2011 and will host the event again in August 2012. Set in natural woodlands and parklands of almost 350 acres, more than twice the average size of a Championship course, water features prominently in nine of the 18 holes. In keeping with the Nicklaus philosophy of working with the natural landscape rather than against it, the course features stunning stonework which was quarried from the site and hand-tooled by expert craftsmen. Complimenting this exceptional golf course is the impressive 30,000 sq feet clubhouse with state-of-the-art locker rooms, on-site physiotherapy, fine dining in the restaurant and casual dining in the bar areas. Location Located near the picturesque village of Dunsany, just north of Dunshaughlin and overlooked by the ancient Hill of Tara, Killeen Castle offers all the joys of true country living with easy access to the city, being only thirty five minutes from both Dublin International Airport and the City Centre ![]() |
