Golf in Porto Portugal

Oporto Golf Club – Porto – Portugal

oporto_portugal.jpgOporto Golf Course is located 17 km to the south of Porto beside the beautiful beaches of Espinho. This authentic links course was established in 1890 by British residents. After Pau in France, it is the second oldest course in Continental Europe. Its narrow fairways, together with the north wind, are the main obstacles, starting out with a difficult Par 4. In terms of challenging holes, one cannot forget number 11, a Par 5 of 494 metres, which together with hole number 4, is considered to be the most difficult of Oporto golf course. The Skeffington Cup, which since 1891 has been played annually in the club, is the oldest competition in the sport to have been played without interruption. This competition is played during the "Espinho Golf Week" when the members compete for the three famous cups, the Skeffington, the Kendell and the Dockery.

Miramar Golf Club – Porto – Portugal

miramar_portugal.jpgMiramar Golf Club was founded in 1931 and is situated in a famous northern seaside resort and running alongside the beaches between Espinho and Porto. When the course was inaugurated in 1932, Frank Gordon and Arthur Mariani were jointly responsible for the design; a nine-hole course for Par 34 over 2.579 meters. Pay special attention to hole number 2 of Miramar, a Par 3 with a split-level green. Another challenging hole is the 9th that requires a golfer to score a par-4 which becomes demanding due to its length.

Amarante Golf Club – Porto – Portugal

amarante_portugal.jpgLocated approximately 45 minutes from Porto, Amarante Golf Course is surrounded by unspoiled nature and with breathtaking views. It is the best option for those who seek, further to challenging golf, the unique vistas and wines from the Douro wine region. It is a narrow, winding hilly course, calling for great accuracy, particularly at the bunkers protecting the greens and at the lakes that are brought into play at holes number 3, 8, 12 and 17. This is a truly mountainous course as it is 600 meters above sea level. It has four water hazards and covers an area of 40 hectares.
